Tummy Tuck

Even the most svelte of stomachs can be affected by gravity, pregnancy and time, causing the skin to sag, bag and hang off of the abdomen. Or too much of a good thing (i.e., food) has lead to the accumulation of excess fat around the abdomen. Dr. Rim Marcinkus has the answer for these kinds of “tummies“ that won’t go away with diet and exercise. As the Director of Desert Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. Marcinkus has over 27 years of experience in perfecting the art of flattening a flabby stomach with advanced abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedures.

What is a “tummy tuck”?
With a tummy tuck, excess skin and fat are removed from the middle and lower abdomen, so that the abdominal muscles tighten and the skin becomes firmer and flatter.

To help determine if a tummy tuck is right for you, Dr. Marcinkus will first consult with you to listen to your hopes and dreams, and answer your questions. He will also thoroughly assess your health history and the condition of your abdomen, before making any recommendations for a tummy tuck.

Who can have a tummy tuck?
The tummy tuck procedure is suitable for men and women in relatively good physical shape who have significant deposits of unwanted fat or loose abdominal skin that have not responded well to diet and/or exercise.

The tummy tuck is particularly effective for helping women whose abdomens have been stretched by multiple pregnancies to regain their shapely. Additionally, older and obese patients whose skin has lost its youthful elasticity may also be good candidates for a tummy tuck.

What kind of tummy tucks are there?
Dr. Marcinkus is expertly skilled in the latest, most advanced tummy tuck procedures, one of which may be right for your wants and needs.

Complete Tummy Tuck
With a complete tummy tuck, excess fat and skin are removed from the abdomen’s circumference, and both the underlying muscles and skin are tightened. This procedure is good for those with large excessive fat deposits in the lower and middle abdominal areas, very loose skin and slackened abdominal muscles.

Partial Tummy Tuck
A partial tummy tuck is a much less invasive procedure designed for people who only need a moderate amount of skin and fat removed. Tightening the underlying muscles usually requires a full tummy tuck so it is generally not performed during a partial. However, partial tummy tucks usually result in much smaller scars.

Tumescent Tummy Tuck
You can elect to have a tummy tuck by itself or combine it with the removal of additional fatty deposits through liposuction (of which Dr. Marcinkus is also expertly skilled in). Known as a tumescent tummy tuck, this procedure allows Dr. Marcinkus to shape stubborn areas of fat and create the contours you are looking for.

What results can I expect from a tummy tuck?
The surgical removal of excess fat and skin from the abdomen is a permanent result that will re-contour your stomach, making it flatter, better proportioned and younger looking. It will also result in improved muscle tone.

How long will it take to heal?
After surgery, you will probably feel some pain or discomfort for the first few days, together with a little swelling or bruising around your stomach. This will subside and fade away in time, but you may find it helpful to wear a support garment for a few weeks. Stitches will be removed over a period of about one to two weeks.

The after surgery, you’ll be advised to get out of bed and take gentle walks to help promote blood circulation and, of course, youll need to avoid, straining, bending or lifting for a while.

Many of Dr Marcinkus’ patients find they can return to their jobs in two weeks while others need up to four weeks before going back.

When can I expect to enjoy the results of my tummy tuck?
Full healing from a tummy tuck depends upon the individual, however you may heal within a matter of weeks, while others will heal within months of the procedure. Dr. Marcinkus may recommend regular, gentle exercise when appropriate to assist the healing process and tone the muscles. Scarring from your tummy tuck may fully disappear after 9 to 12 months’ time.

The results of a tummy tuck are permanent and your younger-looking new shape will usually be long lasting if you keep your weight under control and exercise regularly. Please note that results vary from patient to patient and that only a qualified physician such as Dr. Marcinkus can advise on the suitability of the tummy tuck procedure that is right for you for you why not find out today with a complimentary consultation?
